May 2012 Speaker:
Alan Hooper Rural Partners of Michigan
“Strategies for rural small town and rural development”
Why do some communities thrive when others struggle? One reason appears to be the way communities see their potential. Those reading the tea leaves of what’s going on around the world and adapting to these trends appear to be succeeding. Hear more about these strategies and others. Allan Hooper is Economic Development Manager for Consumers Energy. He has 25+ years of experience in economic development where he has developed, managed and implemented a broad range of strategies including domestic and international business attraction programs, export assistance programs, place-based marketing concepts and international regional economic development projects in Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela.
David Sainte-Onge Black Ink Assets:
As of January 1, 2012, the oldest of America’s baby boom generation started turning 65 at at rate of 10,000 a day – a trend that will last for the next 19 years. with 15 million small businesses expected to come onto the market is staggering. When focusing on economic development, don’t lost site of the forest because of the trees. There is a potential for tsunami of businesses for sale in the very near future and this will be the next big economic development dilemma.
